A former kindergarten teacher, Errin Flynn made a career shift in 2008 when she accepted a job with former Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration as a legislative affairs deputy.

Gaining a deep understanding of the legislative process after six years, Flynn took an opportunity to lead the Capital Region Legislative Delegation, which is made up of the 30 state senators and representatives who serve the nine-parish Capital Region and acts as a central voice of constituents who live, work and play in the region.

In Business Report’s latest Best Advice feature, Flynn tells the magazine she carries the words of her father with her as she traverses the challenges of her work.

“For as long as I can remember, my father has instilled the importance of a positive attitude in me,” says the 38-year-old. “He would say, ‘Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.’ It is a mindset that ‘life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.’ Putting these in practice every day, both professionally and personally, has been among the best advice I have ever received.”
