The Capital Region was home to two-thirds of Louisiana’s new construction jobs in February, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber reports.
BRAC released its economic indicator dashboard Thursday, which analyzes several data points to illustrate the current state of the local economy.
The dashboard reveals that job postings reached their highest level in six months after increasing for the past two months. In addition, Baton Rouge’s unemployment rate is the lowest in Louisiana.
Other takeaways from the monthly look at the local economy include:
- Hotel occupancy topped 75% across the region while the Savannah Bananas were in town.
- Jobs have increased by 0.8% in the past year, putting the Capital Region ahead of in-state metros but behind out-of-state peers.
- The manufacturing sector saw its first jobs gain since October.
- Louisiana is one of the nation’s youngest states, with a median age of 37.6.
BRAC Manager of Economic Policy and Research Jake Polansky says efforts to attract and retain talent and fill open jobs are important to keep Baton Rouge competitive with out-of-state peer metro areas.
