After operating for about 25 years at at 722 Jefferson Hwy., Capital Heights Veterinary Clinic is set to move its operations to a larger space at 7662 Goodwood Blvd. later this summer.

“It’s almost three times as large as our current space,” says owner and veterinarian Emily Taylor of the roughly 5,700-square-foot space to which the clinic is relocating. “It’s an attractive building that’s very well laid out for our purposes, and it will allow us to offer some services that we aren’t currently offering. We’re planning to do some boarding there and add some other veterinarian services.”

The clinic purchased the building for $402,708 on June 17 from Woman’s Hospital Foundation, according to sale documents. With some renovations and permitting pending, Taylor hopes to have the new space ready to open by the end of next month. Along with the added space, Taylor says, the new location appealed to her because it’s not too far—about 1.5 miles—from her current location.

“We really focus on building strong relationships with our clients, so I didn’t want to move too far,” she says. “Plus, it’s just a really nice area with the park nearby and the brand new library.”

As for the timing of the move, Taylor says her lease was set to expire at the Jefferson Highway location and she felt it was time to invest in her own building.

Taylor purchased the practice in June 2010 and rebranded the business. The clinic was established in 1973 as Mistretta Veterinary Clinic, and it has been located in its current space for about 25 years, Taylor says.
