Capital Area Human Services Executive Director Jan Kasofsky has announced she will be resigning from the organization effective Feb. 29.
Kasofsky, who has led the organization since 1996, is leaving CAHS for a position in private health care in New Orleans, according to a prepared statement from the organization.
The CAHS board of directors accepted Kasofsky’s resignation at its monthly board meeting. The board has appointed Jan Laughinghouse, the agency’s Addiction Recovery Services Program director, to serve as interim executive director starting March 1. Laughinghouse has been with the agency for eight years.
Kasofsky came to Louisiana from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and worked as senior vice president for business development at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge when the Capital Area Human Services district was formed. Kasofsky was named one of Business Report’s Influential Women in Business in 2001.
Board Chair Tom Sawyer commended Kasofsky’s “tireless efforts, particularly during and after numerous hurricane and community crises in the Greater Baton Rouge area.”
Under Kasofsky’s leadership, Sawyer says, a regional opioid response plan was completed and is being implemented.
