Bill Gross, founder of tech incubator Idealab, is launching Idealab.ai, a free AI-powered platform designed to help people turn business ideas into startups, Fortune reports.
The platform offers access to more than 1.2 million concepts generated by analyzing 17 million sources and applying Gross’s 31 methods for identifying opportunities, including unmet needs, emerging technologies and market shifts. Users can enter their skills or LinkedIn profiles to find ideas suited to their experience, explore startup costs, search patents and eventually connect with potential investors, partners and collaborators.
Gross hopes the initiative will help create 1 million businesses and 100 million jobs worldwide, expanding his ability to support entrepreneurship far beyond the roughly 175 companies produced by Idealab since 1996. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince has committed $100,000 in credits to each startup using the platform, and Gross plans to seek similar support from other companies.
The platform also aims to help users navigate the practical work of launching and operating a business, including through a planned guide to essential business functions. Supporters see the initiative as a promising application of artificial intelligence that could unlock entrepreneurship by matching people with viable opportunities and helping them execute their ideas.
However, experts caution that generating ideas is only one part of building a successful company, and it remains unclear whether new business creation will offset jobs lost to AI.
Gross has also removed approximately 100,000 potentially harmful ideas from the platform. He credits advances in AI models with making the system capable of producing useful concepts and sees the current launch as the beginning of a broader effort to make entrepreneurship more accessible.
