Laurinda Calongne, who finished third in the Senate District 16 primary Saturday, is backing Dan Claitor, who was the leading vote-getter. Calongne, who garnered 27% of the vote, says she met with Claitor and Lee Domingue before making the endorsement. Her decision to back Claitor is based on his knowledge of the community and desire to help people in the district. “I believe the general election will prove to be very competitive, and the people of District 16 will take the opportunity to determine for themselves clear distinctions between the candidates and elect the person who is most capable of representing our district,” Calongne said in a statement. Claitor, who got 39% of the vote, faces Domingue, who got 34%, in the April 4 election.
