A group of about 300 Silicon Valley companies want California Gov. Jerry Brown to create a post to improve the state’s manufacturing and high-tech competitiveness, after a satellite telephone provider decided to move its headquarters to Covington. The San Jose Mercury News says the Silicon Valley Leadership Group wants to see a plan to prevent losing jobs and companies to other states. Globalstar announced in July it would move its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Covington to take advantage of tax incentives and lower costs. The company says it will create 150 new jobs in the state by the end of the year and more than 500 jobs by the end of 2019. Other firms that have left California recently include solar energy company SunPower, which is expanding in Austin, Texas; and Intel, which will build two manufacturing facilities in neighboring states.
