The Kolache Kitchen is set to open its third Baton Rouge-area location this spring, near the intersection of Airline Highway and Highland Road.
Owner Will Edwards says the quick-service bakery and cafe has been trying to get closer to its customers in Ascension Parish for years.
“Ever since we opened our first location by LSU eight years ago, we always had people coming in from Gonzales and Prairieville, and I’d already been looking for another location out there because that area is growing fast,” Edwards says. “We weren’t really looking to expand this year, just trying to survive, but this location fell in our lap and we couldn’t pass up on it.”
Edwards expects the new space—a former Taco Bell that’s attached to the Neighborhood Pet Market—to attract commuters traveling from Ascension Parish to Baton Rouge every morning.
The locally based concept serves a variety of kolaches along with breakfast tacos, empanadas, cinnamon rolls and other freshly baked goods for breakfast, as well as gourmet sandwiches and street-style tacos for lunch.
The Airline location will join The Kolache Kitchen’s four existing locations, which include two in Baton Rouge and two in New Orleans. Currently, there are no other expansion plans in the works.
