The Citiplace building that was formerly home to On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has been sold and the new owner plans to build a 119-room hotel in its place.
Doing business as OM of Baton Rouge LLC, Vimal Patel of Broussard bought the property for $10 cash and “other good and valuable consideration,” according to sales documents. Patel got approval from the Planning Commission last month for a proposed Home2 Suites by Hilton to be built at Citiplace. The hotel will span five stories and some 77,000 square feet, and will be located directly next door to a Tru by Hilton that’s nearing completion.
Patel bought the property from DB Triple Dipper Restaurant LLC, who was represented by Jonathan Walker, a broker with Maestri-Murrell Commercial Real Estate.
Patel was unable to be reached before this afternoon’s deadline for more information.
On the Border closed its doors in September 2017. At the time, kitchen manager Tim Armour told Daily Report that the Tru by Hilton being built next door led the landowner to end the restaurant’s lease.
