Thursday — The LSU AgCenter will sponsor a half day conference on rural poverty from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Woods Auditorium in the Energy, Coast and Environment Building. Thursday — Volunteers In Public Schools will host an open house at 1 p.m. at Capitol Elementary. The event will spotlight how three congregations from diverse backgrounds have united to support Capitol Elementary.
Friday — Barbara Reich Freiberg, East Baton Rouge Parish School Board president, will be the guest speaker at the Baton Rouge Black Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon. Feb. 8 — Elliot Eisenberg, the senior economist of the National Association of Home Builders, will speak at a luncheon sponsored by the Capital Region Builders Association. The lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Embassy Suites Hotel. Attorney General Buddy Caldwell and Adam Knapp, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, will also speak at the lunch. Feb. 8 — A community planning workshop for the West Baton Rouge Parish Comprehensive Plan will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Baton Rouge Tourist & Convention Center. Participants will evaluate regional alternatives for four districts of the parish.
Feb. 10 — Manners of the Heart will hold its annual Heart in Hand Awards at 6 p.m. in the LSU Rural Life Museum. The event will honor outstanding individuals or groups who have demonstrated humility, integrity, and respectfulness. For more information, click here
Feb. 15 — Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. The event is sponsored by Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Business Report, 10/12 Magazine and LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute. Guest speakers include Ryan A. Furby, corporate communications director for digital & social media strategies at FedEx, and Brent Scoda, a 2010 Global Student Entrepreneurship Awards winner. Feb. 18 — Perry Franklin, president of Franklin Industries, will speak as part of the LSU Flores MBA Program’s Distinguished Speaker Series at 9:30 a.m. in LSU’s Energy, Coast & Environment Building. Franklin earned a bachelor’s in business management and an EMBA from LSU.
Feb. 18 — Amy Mitchell Smith of the Baton Rouge Film Commission will be the guest speaker at Forum 35’s monthly lunch meeting. The lunch will be held at noon at Juban’s. For more details, go to forum35.org.
Feb. 23 — Plaquemine Bank and Trust Company will hold a free small business presentation at 6 p.m. in its offices. The presentation will discuss SBA and USDA loans and include representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration office in New Orleans and USDA office in Alexandria. Feb. 24 — A public meeting on the proposed Interstate 10 interchange at Pecue Lane will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. George Kleinpeter Activity Center. The project is in the planning stage and representatives from the Green Light Plan will be on hand to receive comments and answer questions about the project.
Feb. 25 — Southern University will host a statewide elected officials’ conference on higher education from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union. The event, entitled “Higher Education in Louisiana: Saving our Southern”, is sponsored by the university’s Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs.
