Business Report Publisher Rolfe McCollister is endorsing Republican Metro Councilman Buddy Amoroso in the race for House District 66, in which Amoroso is running against two Republicans and an independent.
“Voters in Louisiana House District 66 will go to the polls on Feb. 21 for a special election to replace Rep. Hunter Greene, who was elected Family Court judge,” McCollister writes in his endorsement, noting early voting is now open through Saturday. “There is a strong field with four bright and capable candidates who have offered to serve the residents of this district. Two have experience in elected office and two are new faces.”
Aside from Amoroso, the other Republicans in the race are former Metro Councilman Darrell Ourso and attorney Rick Bond. Susan Nelson, a consultant and former public schools volunteer, is running as an independent. Bond and Nelson previously have not held a public office.
“I got a chance to interview and receive a questionnaire from each candidate and they all have a desire to serve and be part of solving the challenges ahead,” McCollister writes. “They agree on many of the issues but there are differences and some have records which can help when deciding who one will vote for on Feb 21.”
Ultimately, McCollister says, Amoroso is the best choice for the House District 66 seat.
“He knows the issues. His record as a conservative has been consistent and his actions on the Metro Council have shown his ready to step into this seat for the upcoming session,” he writes. “On the Metro Council he took action in dealing with issues like software taxes, CATS and the EPA. Amoroso will represent the people of this district well.”
