Tuesday: Former Metro Councilman R.J. “Smokie” Bourgeois will speak about his candidacy for Baton Rouge mayor at the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge Parish luncheon taking place at 11:45 a.m. at Cafe Americain, 7521 Jefferson Highway. The meeting is open to the public. Lunch costs $17.50 and is payable to the restaurant.

Wednesday: Coletta Barrett, vice president of mission for Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, is the featured speaker at this week’s Rotary of Baton Rouge noon luncheon at Drusilla Place Catering, 3482 Drusilla Lane, Suite D. Get more information.

Thursday: Cognize founder John Zachary will present his insights on virtual team communication psychology and behaviors, effective virtual team management, technology tools, and team-building at 7:30 a.m. at Tech Park Academy, 7117 Florida Boulevard. July 6: The next 1 Million Cups entrepreneurial pitch event will take place at 9 a.m. at the Main Library at Goodwood, 7711 Goodwood Blvd. Mason Dupre will present Woolly Threads, a clothing company founded in an LSU campus apartment, and Mitzi Barber will present Aquiem, a formulated water to enhance the flavor of coffee.

July 12: The 2016 Diversity Summit for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Baton Rouge Chapter takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library, 9200 Bluebonnet Blvd. The summit’s topic is how to become a better fundraiser within a diverse audience. The cost is $35 for AFP members and $40 for non-members. Early registration is encouraged. 

July 12: Col. Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police superintendent, will address the Better Business Bureau Luncheon from noon until 1 p.m. at the Oak Lodge Reception Conference Center, 2834 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. Registration opens 11:30 a.m. Topics covered will include an update on public safety, a threat assessment of Louisiana and the leadership role in crisis management.
