Tuesday — The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish’s Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon will feature guest speakers Norman Browning and Lionel Rainey III of Local Schools for Local Children, who will discuss their plan to promote passage of a new school district for the southeast portion of the city-parish. The event is open to registered Republicans and guests. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m., and lunch will begin at noon. Lunch is $15. The meeting is at Café Américain, 7521 Jefferson Hwy. Wednesday — BRAC hosts its annual Shareholders Meeting at the Renaissance Hotel, 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd., from 7 to 9 a.m. Thomas Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will discuss the state of American business and the role of Greater Baton Rouge in the national economy. A review of BRAC outcomes over the past year is also on the agenda, as well as a look ahead. Tickets are $20, or $150 for a table of 10. More details and tickets can be found here.
March 19 — The 2013 Business Awards & Hall of Fame Banquet, presented by Business Report and Junior Achievement, will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Crowne Plaza, 4728 Constitution Ave. Tickets are $80 each, or $750 for a table of 10. This year’s winners are:
• Hall of Fame Laureate: James “Jim” Bernhard, founder, chairman and CEO of The Shaw Group
• Businessperson of the Year: Teri Fontenot, president and CEO of Woman’s Hospital
• Young Businesspersons of the Year: Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, owners of Last in Concepts Inc., which includes Walk-On’s, Roux House, Schlittz & Giggles, and Happy’s
• Company of the Year (100 or more employees): Sparkhound
• Company of the Year (under 100 employees): GoTech Inc.
