Thursday — Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and his challenger, Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, will square off for a debate hosted by the League of Women Voters of Baton Rouge and WBRZ-TV at noon in the Audubon Room at Drusilla Place, 3482 Drusilla Lane. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and will be closed once the forum begins. The candidates, both Republicans, will be questioned by a panel of local journalists. Cost is $20 for LWVBR members and $25 for guests. Reservations are required to guarantee seating and may be made online here for an additional $2 convenience fee. Friday — LSU will host the Louisiana Women’s Summit at the Lod Cook Alumni Conference Center. Keynote speakers for the all-day event will be Simone Bruni, president and owner of Demo Diva Demolition, and retired women’s basketball superstar Lisa Leslie. Friday — Southern University Law Center kicks off its 2011-12 Speakers Series with a joint lecture by retired educator A. P. Tureaud Jr. and SULC Director of Communications Rachel L. Emanuel. Their presentation, “A More Noble Cause: A. P. Tureaud, Sr., and the Struggle for Civil Rights in Louisiana,” is also the title of their new book, examining Tureaud Sr.’s legal career, which was devoted to civil rights during the Jim Crow era. The lecture will take place at noon in 129 A.A. Lenoir Hall on the Southern campus. Admission is free.
