BREC set to begin search for Palmer’s replacement

BREC commissioners are getting ready to search for a new parks superintendent. Bill Palmer has said he plans to retire when his current contract as superintendent expires in late January 2012. “I’ll be meeting with other officers and sitting down to work out a process,” says Bill Benedetto, chairman of the BREC commission. Benedetto says the plan is to hire a search firm that will look for local and national candidates. The hope is to have a candidate in place by the end of the year to allow for a transition period. In any case, Benedetto says that Palmer has agreed to stay on as long as possible to ensure a smooth transition. Palmer has been with BREC since 1979. He was named interim superintendent in October 2005, and got the job on a permanent basis in July 2006. —Timothy Boone
