Anyone looking for work with the city-parish’s parks and recreation department will have to apply online beginning Nov. 30, as the agency tries to streamline its hiring process.
Eschewing the traditional paper applications, BREC says it will move all applications online. However, the agency will post staffed kiosks in its human resources department lobby at 6201 Florida Blvd. to help people who do not have Internet service, the agency says in a news release.
The system allows potential employees to apply for multiple positions at one time, rather than applying for multiple positions with multiple paper applications. Hiring managers can also screen qualifications faster with the new system.
Assisting BREC in the digital initiative is NEOGOV, which bills itself as the country’s largest cloud software for human resources departments in government and education. NEOGOV will handle the administrative work for the website, lowering the maintenance costs for BREC.
BREC first used the new system this summer to staff Day Camp and Liberty Lagoon, bringing in more than 740 applications for more than 300 positions. The move is the latest in a two-year campaign to modernize the agency’s finance and human resources departments, BREC says.
“This new system will streamline our processes and help us hire the best and brightest employees possible and get them into our parks and facilities in a much quicker timeframe than before,” BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight says in a prepared statement.
