Nursing graduates of Baton Rouge Community College will be able to enroll more easily at Our Lady of the Lake College under a new agreement finalized between the two institutions. Students receiving an associate degree in nursing at BRCC will be able to seamlessly apply to the OLOL College’s bachelor of science program. College spokeswoman Kelly Zimmerman cites an increasing demand by hospitals for RNs with bachelor’s degrees as a factor in forging the agreement. OLOL College President Sandra Harper and BRCC Interim Chancellor James F. Horton Jr. formalized the agreement in a ceremony held at Our Lady of the Lake College on Friday. Jim Purcell, commissioner of higher education, who oversees the operations of the Louisiana State Board of Regents and represents the state’s postsecondary education community, also attended the ceremony. “We believe working with these BRCC graduates will support those who wish to further their education and will ultimately make for better trained nurses throughout the region,” Harper says in the statement.
