Baton Rouge Community College graduates who want to pursue complimentary baccalaureate degrees at Our Lady of the Lake College will be able to do so seamlessly under a new agreement inked by the two institutions, they announced today.
Under the agreement, BRCC graduates with associate degrees in general science, business and liberal studies will be able to transition into three baccalaureate programs at OLOL. General science grads from BRCC can enroll in the biology program at OLOL, while business graduates can pursue health services administration degree at OLOL and English graduates can enroll in liberal studies at OLOL.
The goal of the agreement is to increase the number of graduates in STEM fields, business and liberal arts. U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that only 5% of U.S. workers are employed in fields related to science and engineering, yet they are responsible for more than 50% of sustained economic expansion.
“We believe working with these BRCC graduates will support those who wish to further their education and will meet the region’s needs for more highly educated graduates in these important fields,” says OLOL College President Tina Holland in a prepared statement.
This is not the first articulation agreement between the two institutions. In 2011, BRCC and OLOL entered into a formal agreement allowing BRCC graduates with an associate nursing degree to enroll seamlessly into OLOL’s bachelor of science in nursing program.
