The Capital Region is now the “Creative Capital of the South,” according to the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. The brand campaign, which BRAC officially launched last night with a party at the Varsity Theatre, “aims to accentuate the creativity that defines the region through examples of entrepreneurship, innovation, research and development, culture, the arts and many other aspects,” the chamber says. The moniker was first devised in 2005, they say, but has only been used intermittently since that time. A new website, creativecapitalofthesouth.com, accompanies the branding effort. As part of the launch, organizers announced a photo contest, with winners receiving $500 and inclusion in an upcoming advertising campaign. —David Jacobs
