Bob Dean, who owns downtown properties and nursing homes, faces a $112,000 fine from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for allegedly failing to protect workers who were removing a ceiling containing asbestos. The fine stems from work done on the State National Life Building downtown, according to a release from the agency’s Dallas office. OSHA cited Dean for three willful violations: getting workers to remove asbestos without a competent person supervising the work, failing to provide required respiratory equipment and failing to tell workers the site contained asbestos. There were 10 serious violations Dean was cited for, including failing to monitor for asbestos materials and failing to train employees engaged in the removal of asbestos. Dean has 15 days to comply or contest the charges.
