Biomedical Research Foundation officials were presented their take-it-or-leave-it offer Thursday to continue operating the state’s safety net hospitals in Monroe and Shreveport, Gannett Louisiana reports.

The officials declined to discuss details of the proposal until they make a decision as soon as next week.

“We got the proposal and we are reviewing it,” foundation Chairman Steve Skrivanos said after a meeting in Baton Rouge with Gov. John Bel Edwards’ Commission of Administration Jay Dardenne. “Both parties agreed to refrain from commenting until a decision is made.”

The contract proposal to Biomedical Research Foundation was the final presented to the private partners operating safety net hospitals throughout the state.

Dardenne said it was the “most difficult” because of the contentious relationship between the foundation and the LSU medical school in Shreveport, which is designed to operate in concert with the hospitals.

Dardenne said all of the proposals have been presented, but emphasized not all of them have been signed. The commissioner said he is waiting to release details of the contracts until they are signed or rejected.
