The 2018 Louisiana International Film Festival kicked off Thursday with actors, producers, screenwriters, directors and movie lovers converging on Perkins Rowe to get a first look at new film projects playing on the silver screen at Cinemark Theatre.
As Best of 225 This Week reports, the festival began with a kickoff party at Bin 77, followed by two showings of Ethan Hawke’s new movie Blaze—much of which was shot near Baton Rouge.
This year’s “Save the Swamp” festival theme brings global environmental ideas to a Southern audience during a schedule packed with Southern voices.
“What’s amazing is that this year we saw a 50% increase in the number of Louisiana-submitted films,” LIFF executive director Chesley Heymsfield says. “We’re proud to showcase local talent and encourage all Louisiana filmmakers to continue to tell their stories.”
The festival continues today and runs through Sunday and has an extensive lineup of events and film screenings. See the full schedule and get pricing information.
