Downtown Baton Rouge will once again be filled with the sounds of live music this weekend, as the Live After Five and Sunday in the Park concert series continue.
As Best of 225 This Week reports, Louisiana Hall of Fame inductee and blues artist Larry Garner will take the Live After Five stage from 5-8 p.m. this evening at Repentance Park. Garner and the Boogaloo Blues Band have been touring since winning the 5th Annual International Blues Challenge in 1988. He is a five-time Blues Music Award nominee and has been named BBC’s Bluesman of the Year.
Live After Five is the city’s longest running and most successful concert series. This free series, produced by the Downtown Business Association, runs four months of the year—April, May, September and October.
Sunday in the Park, meanwhile, will feature Americana folk-rock band The Mulligan Brothers. The band, which has released two albums to date, performs from 2-5 p.m. at the Shaw Center for the Arts Plaza. Sunday in the Park is hosted by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and is partly sponsored by 225.
During Sunday’s show, Capital City Grill and Stroubes will be serving food, and the Manship Theatre will be selling drinks.
