It’s that time of the year again where Baton Rougeans brush out their green wigs and put on their most festive green attire in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
Ahead of this Saturday’s holiday, Best of 225 This Week has compiled a list of events—from parties at local bars and restaurants to the annual parade—where you can spend the day getting your shamrock on.
The 2018 Wearin’ on the Green Parade rolls promptly at 10 a.m., starting on South Acadian Thruway. The parade makes its way down Hundred Oaks, Eugene Street and Terrace Boulevard before ending on Perkins Road. For the first time in years, the parade falls on the actual holiday, making the event more festive.
If you’re out and on the hunt for food and drink specials, you can find Ivar’s Sports Bar, The Overpass Merchant, Uncle Earl’s as well as Zippy’s Burritos, Tacos & More located along the parade route.
“Ivar’s bills itself as ‘the ONLY Irish bar on the route,’ and will be charging a $10 cover for a parade home base with bathrooms, drink specials and free Jell-O shots all day,” Best of 225 This Week reports. There also will be live music by True Spin, Pants Party and Zipties after the parade.
If you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day away from the crowds and traffic of the parade, you can head over to Lava Cantina at Perkins Rowe. The restaurant is hosting live music and will have drink specials. The Wiseguys take the stage at 8 p.m.
