The rapidly growing Baton Rouge-based Bernhard Capital Partners has increased its footprint again.
In an acquisition announced today, ATC Group Services, a Lafayette-based environmental consulting and industrial hygiene firm acquired last November by a group of investors led by BCP, has acquired Sage Environmental Consulting of Austin, Texas.
The 18-year-old Sage specializes in environmental engineering and technical consulting services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With the acquisition, ATC Group Services will grow to more than 1,500 employees nationwide, significantly expanding its technical capabilities in air quality. Sage has more than 200 employees in 24 offices across the U.S. Prior to the acquisition ATC Group had some 1,350 employees in 70 offices around the country.
The acquisition makes sense for both companies, according to prepared statements in a release. ATC provides environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, geotechnical engineering, government services and construction-materials testing. Sage focuses on providing regulatory compliance, permitting and remediation assistance, as well as a range of environmental programs, including air quality, water quality, hazardous and solid waste, hazardous materials and petroleum storage activities.
“We are delighted to welcome the Sage Environmental team to the ATC family,” ATC CEO Bobby Toups says. “We look forward to leveraging their unique experience and expertise in air quality and control, leak detection and repair services, which will be a natural complement to ATC’s work within the environmental services market.”
The acquisition is the latest in a string of acquisitions over the past year by the various portfolio companies under the expanding BCP umbrella. Those companies include: Bernhard LLC, Epic Piping, Brown and Root, and ATC Group Services. All are run independently with their own management teams, many members of which worked under Jim Bernhard for years at The Shaw Group.
Bernhard retired from The Shaw Group in 2013, after it was acquired by CB&I. He founded BCP a few months later with several of his top executives from The Shaw Group, and has spent the past two years creating a network of companies under BCP that rival what The Shaw Group did in size and scope.
