Baton Rouge’s unemployment rate for the month of April decreased to 4.8%, according to non-seasonally adjusted data released today by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
The civilian labor force in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area totaled 407,625 workers, up from 399,726 for the same month in 2015.
Within the Baton Rouge area, St. Helena Parish had the highest unemployment rate of 6.7%. Livingston Parish reported the lowest at 4.5%.
In East Baton Rouge Parish, the number of employed workers rose to 228,832, up from 224,505 in April 2015. The parish has an unemployment rate of 4.7%.
According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, unemployment rates fell in all nine of Louisiana’s MSAs in April.
Even in Lafayette, which has been hard hit by the job losses in the oil and gas sector, the unemployment rate declined from 7.1% to 6.9%, the highest in the state.
