All three of Baton Rouge’s riverboat casinos posted a decline in their take from gamblers in February, as compared to the same month last year, leading a 5.8% decline in the local gaming market.
Collectively, the three casinos netted roughly $25.8 million last month, down from approximately $27.4 million in February 2015, according to figures released Monday by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.
Hollywood Casino posted the biggest decline in winnings by percentage, down 9.5% to roughly $6.1 million, while L’Auberge had the biggest decline in dollars, $712,695. However, with total winnings of approximately $14.2 million, L’Auberge raked in more than twice as much as Hollywood Casino did during the month. The Belle of Baton Rouge, meanwhile, brought in roughly $5.4 million in winnings, or about 4.1% less than it won in February last year.
Last month’s decline comes after the Baton Rouge market posted a 1.3% decline in winnings in January. Two months into the new year, year-to-date collective winnings at the three casinos are down 4% to approximately $48.5 million. In January and February of last year, collective winnings were at $50.5 million. The local market ended 2015 with winnings of roughly $291 million, a 4.6% increase from the 2014 tally.
The Associated Press reports Louisiana’s 15 riverboats, four racetrack slots casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans land-based casino brought in $223.3 million during February, a 0.4% decline from the $224.1 million the casinos won a year earlier.
