A Baton Rouge neighborhood and park have been declared Great Places in Louisiana by AARP. The Beauregard Town and City-Brooks Community Park were two of the statewide winners, recognized for innovations in planning, design, construction, services and programs that foster lifelong residency.

Beauregard Town earned accolades for its beautification projects, including the “Beauregarden” community garden, social activities and the creation of a walking tour of the historic district. Also cited were efforts at infill development, smart growth, resident engagement and pedestrian transportation. City-Brooks Community Park drew praise for new play areas for children; a revamped dog park; increased outdoor lighting and signage for a safer park; new walking trails and bike paths; renovated picnic and public art areas; and extensive rejuvenation of City Park Golf Course.

Each Great Place award winner received $1,500 and was honored during a reception Thursday night at the Smart Growth Summit. This is the second year the awards have been presented during the summit.
