Mary Bird Perkins–Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center says a new clinic focused on treating patients with tumors of the soft tissue, muscles and bones is the first of its kind Louisiana.
Located on the ground floor of the Essen Lane center, the Musculoskeletal Oncology Clinic offers treatment for a rare group of cancers that originate in the bones and/or in the connective tissues of the body.
Heading the new clinic is Dr. John Lyons, a surgical oncologist who trained Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Dr. Shaun Accardo, an orthopedic oncologist who trained Moffit Cancer Center.
Accardo was recently recognized among Business Report’s 2018 Forty under 40. He’s one of two orthopedic oncologists in the state and one of only a few physicians in the region specializing in treating these types of diseases.
