Aided by a strong December, during which gamblers left roughly $24.2 million at the city’s three riverboat casinos, the Baton Rouge casino market saw winnings rise 4.7% in 2015 to approximately $291.6 million. The year previous, the three casinos raked in roughly $278.6 million, according to figures released today by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.
In December, two of three riverboats saw their take increase, while the total market winnings increased 5.8%. L’Auberge Baton Rouge won $13.7 million, an increase of 11.9%, while Hollywood Casino won $5.7 million, up 4.9%. The Belle of Baton Rouge, meanwhile, saw its take dip 7.7% to $4.8 million.
The monthly winning reports show the Baton Rouge market was particularly strong in 2015. The three casinos here collectively posted an increase in winnings in 11 of 12 months this year. The lone month in which winnings were down was in August, when all three casinos posted a year-over-year decline and the total market was off 4.3%.
Elsewhere in Louisiana last month, the Shreveport/Bossier City market’s six riverboats posted a 0.7% increase in winnings to $56.6 million. In Lake Charles, the three riverboats collectively won $61.7 million, a 14.4% decline, and the three riverboats in New Orleans posted a 4.4% increase in winnings to $22.6 million.
