A local business has carved its own niche in the ever popular subscription box service market.

Louisiana to Geaux is capitalizing on the popularity of Louisiana food and culture, delivering speciality Bayou State products to subscribers each month.

As The Advertiser reports, the company is one of three box services to focus on getting Louisiana products in the hands of relocated Louisianans and other people who want them. The others are Lafayette-based Cajue Crate and startup Parish Parcel.

“We may do something similar, but we’re all a little different. We all have our own niche,” says Brandy Hutchison, who began Louisiana to Geaux about a year ago. “We definitely need to spread the Louisiana love. There are a lot of people doing great things, and it’s important to share that.”

In an article last year, Entrepreneur magazine reported that more companies were jumping into the subscription box service market and experiencing incredible growth. For instance, Dollar Shave Club last year was expected to generate $60 million in revenue, nearly tripling its 2013 revenue, the magazine reported. Meanwhile, Honest Company was expected to bring in $150 million in revenue in 2014, landing the business a $1 billion valuation.

A Louisiana to Geaux speciality gift box retails between $27 and $30 per month. The service allows customers to choose whether they want a box of kitchen items, sweets or household products.

The kitchen box features goods such as spices, dressings, seasonings and sauces. The “sweets-and-such” box includes everything from pralines to king cakes.

The “pamper yourself” box includes candles, soaps and other goodies. Tucked away in each box is information on the history and origination of each product. Each box contains four items.
