With Halloween little more than a week away, you might spend part of this weekend scrambling for a costume if you haven’t already decided on one. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stalk the picked over aisles of the big box seasonal costume stores that spring up every fall.
As 225 details in the current issue, Baton Rouge area boutique and thrift stores are great sources for DIY Halloween costumes. From groovy hippies to zombie nurses, 225 has outlined a number of fun costume options and points you to the local stores where you can score something stylish and scary. Check out the full gallery.
And if you need some makeup to go along with your costume, check out a feature with local makeup artist CeKeisha Williams, who gives 225 a primer on how to make scars and bruises.
When it comes to serving up food at your Halloween party this year, consider a tasty menu by 225’s Tracey Koch and Stephanie Riegel that has a tie-in to the an ancient Mexican tradition of honoring the dead, or Dia de los Muertos. On the menu is chicken tortilla soup, pepper jack cheese-stuffed corn muffins, wineritas and spicy caramel corn, and 225 has the recipes and instructions.
Of course, Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without the candy, and the 225 staff has compiled a list of its favorite nostalgic candies from their childhoods. Check it out.
