Baton Rouge adds 100 construction jobs in July

There were 100 more construction jobs in metro Baton Rouge in July than there were a year ago. According to the Associated General Contractors of America, there were 37,700 construction jobs in the Capital Region, compared with 37,600 the year before. Baton Rouge was one of 136 U.S. metro areas that added construction jobs last month. Kenosha, Wis., saw the greatest percentage gain, adding 2,900 jobs, or a 23% increase, to boost construction employment to 15,600. Houma-Thibodaux added 200 construction jobs, a 4% increase that brought sector employment up to 5,900. Lake Charles and New Orleans both saw 3% construction gains, while the percentage in Shreveport-Bossier was unchanged. Lafayette lost 700 construction jobs since July 2010, an 11% drop that put the city down at 5,800 jobs.
