The bar on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard formerly known as The Londoner—which is temporarily being called The Pub on Sherwood—is aiming to permanently change its name by the end of the month, with the business fully rebranded by January.

For the pub, saying “cheerio” to its moniker of nine years comes after a Texas-based restaurant group filed a trademark for “The Londoner” and told the Baton Rouge pub it needed to change its name, despite a previous handshake agreement between the two businesses over the use of the name.

In the weeks since, pub operators have brainstormed new ideas and whittled down options to four or five, says general manager Billy Scott, all of which are in keeping with its British theme.

“We’ll have to do a trademark search to make sure this doesn’t happen to us again in another nine years,” Scott says. “Everyone will call us The Londoner for years to come, anyway.”

While Scott expects to have a new name in place by late November, a full rebrand of the business won’t come until after the restaurant has reached certain agreements with all parties, slated to happen around January.
