Baton Rouge was tied for 10th on a list of cities with the fewest bankruptcy filings among small businesses. During a six-month period made up of the fourth quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of this year, there were 18 small business bankruptcies in the Capital Region, according to Equifax, the national credit reporting agency. That tied the Capital Region with Lakeland, Fla. Two cities, Lynchburg, Va., and South Bend, Ind., tied for fewest bankruptcy filings during the period studied, with nine each. Los Angeles was the leader in small business bankruptcy filings, with 1,048 in the first quarter alone. That was up nearly 1.6% from first quarter 2010.
