John Morales got inspiration to start a photo booth rental company when his sister “just had to have one” at her wedding back in 2007. It was a great idea, he says, but the only problem was that they couldn’t find one to rent in all of Louisiana. “We ended up finding a company in Houston that rented them. It was kind of a hassle to get it, but it was a big hit at the wedding. That really got us thinking,” says Morales—who just a few years later started Rex Photo Booth Co. in Baton Rouge with his sister and brother-in-law. With the recent purchase of three “vintage-style photo booths” from Florida-based Plumb Fun Photo Booth Co., Morales says, Rex Photobooth has doubled its inventory and become the largest such rental company in the state. “We rent all over the state, mostly for weddings and corporate events, and we’re able to make them really unique by wrapping the booths in vinyl with whatever design or pictures the customer wants for the occasion,” Morales says. “It’s becoming increasingly popular.” Morales won’t disclose how much money his company has invested in the booths but says, “They’re very expensive machines; you’d be amazed at what they cost.” Rental packages start at $695 for two hours.
