On its annual list of the U.S. cities with the most and fewest shoppers for eco-friendly vehicles, Cars.com has listed Baton Rouge among the 10 cities with the fewest. The website, which serves as an online resource for buying and selling new and used vehicles, says it pawed through data from millions of its site visitors to compile the list. It’s based on searches for hybrid vehicles as well as those getting 40 mpg or more. Not surprisingly, California shoppers were found to be the most eco-conscious, while Southern states were found to be the least green. Six of the top 10 cities for green vehicle interest are located in the Golden State, while others are in Wisconsin, Oregon and Ohio. Cities ranking the least green on the list are in Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska. Baton Rouge is the lone Louisiana city on the list—but is ranked as the most green among the 10 least green cities. “The hard-workers in the South need their pickup trucks,” says Cars.com Editor-in-Chief Patrick Olsen in a prepared statement. “For these workers, a hybrid or fuel-efficient vehicle would likely be a second car, and that’s just not as feasible for many in this economy.” See the complete list here.
