A new report finds that Baton Rouge and Lafayette rank low for small business bankruptcies. The cities were included in an Equifax report that listed the 15 metro areas with the fewest small business bankruptcies. The report was based on comparing small business data and bankruptcy filings June 2008 to June of this year.
Other metro areas that finished in the top 15 included Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss., Springfield, Mass., and Gainesville, Fla. Cities that had the highest number of small businesses filling for bankruptcy protection include Los Angeles, Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif., and Charlotte, N.C. There were 10,339 bankruptcy filings in June throughout the U.S., up from 5,712 a year ago, says Equifax.
