B.R. has highest average home price of all La. college towns

The average price for a three-bedroom, two-bath home in Baton Rouge is higher than in any other college town in Louisiana—but in the middle of the pack nationally—according to the 2011 College Home Listing Report by Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The average home costs less than $200,000 in nearly two-thirds of the 116 college towns included in the annual report, and less than $150,000 in nearly one-quarter of them. Baton Rouge ranks 73rd most affordable on the list, with an average home price of $194,518. Lafayette ranks 62nd, with an $183,793 average; New Orleans is 53rd, at $176,412; and Ruston is 27th, at $150,121. Monroe ranks highest on the list among Louisiana’s college towns—22nd—with an average of $147,372. Memphis is listed as the most affordable market on the list—and the only city where the average sales price is lower than $100,000—at $89,244.
