Beginning Monday, city-parish building inspectors will start posting inspection results on the city Web page from laptop computers in the field. Under the new system, the city-parish says, contractors will immediately be notified via email or phone message with the results of the inspection. This new high-tech effort by the Department of Public Works utilizes the Internet in order to expedite the processing of building permits and inspections. It follows the Permit and Inspection Division’s implementation in October of the first phase of a new system, which allowed contractors to request inspections through the division’s website and get online access to all project information. Contractors can log into the new system via the division website here to review the detailed results of the inspections. The third and final phase of the new system will allow designers, contractors and owners to file permit applications online instead of physically filing the paperwork at the division’s office downtown. The new online system was developed with input from the Capital Region Builders Association and the American Institute of Architects.
