AT&T says it will install more than 30 cell sites in metro Baton Rouge over the next year in order to improve customer service. The wireless carrier held a press conference today with Mayor Kip Holden to discuss planned upgrades for 2011. Along with the new sites, the company will add spectrum carriers at existing towers to support more traffic. The work is part of a $19 billion upgrade that will be implemented nationwide to ensure more people have access to 4G service. Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana, says if AT&T gets the regulatory go-ahead to merge with T-Mobile, next generation 4G service will expand from 80% of the population to 95%. Since 2008, AT&T has spent more than $200 million on improving service in the Capital Region.
