What’s the most important health metric my annual physical never measures?
VO2 max. It’s how much oxygen your body can use at full effort, and it predicts how long you’ll live better than almost anything on your lab report. In a Cleveland Clinic study of more than 120,000 adults, the least fit had about five times the mortality risk of the most fit. That’s a bigger gap than smoking. The upside: it’s trainable at any age. We test it at SYNC so you train to your real numbers, not your watch’s guess.
I’m 50. How do I know if my body is aging like it’s 40 or 60?
A biological age test. It reads chemical patterns on your DNA, called epigenetic markers, to estimate how old your body actually is. Better yet, it measures your pace of aging: how many biological years you add for every calendar year. Under 1.0 means you’re beating the clock. At SYNC, we pair it with the markers that drive that number: VO2 max, muscle mass, visceral fat, fasting insulin, and ApoB. Move those, and your pace of aging typically slows.
Longevity experts say muscle matters more than weight. Why?
Muscle is your metabolic reserve, your blood sugar buffer, and your best insurance against frailty later in life. Adults lose roughly 3 to 8 percent of muscle mass per decade after 30, and strength fades even faster. In large studies, grip strength alone tracks closely with lifespan. The fix is simple: resistance training two to three times a week with progressive load, and enough protein to support it. Build it now. It’s far harder to rebuild at 70.
