Ascension and Livingston parishes both made a CNNMoney ranking of the 25 best counties in the U.S. for job growth. The list ranked counties based on the number of jobs that were added between 2000 and 2010. Ascension was ranked ninth, reporting nearly 47% job growth during the decade. CNNMoney credited the return of heavy industry to the parish, such as the reopening of the Ormet alumina refinery in Burnside and an adjoining bulk terminal. Livingston ranked 11th, with 43% job growth over the decade. The parish has seen a range of growth, including increases in manufacturing, health care, construction and retail. Rockwall County, Texas, topped the list, with 98% job growth. Rockwall, the smallest county in Texas, is on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. See the full list here.
