Editor’s note: This story has been updated to clarify that the medical office building is attached to Our Lady of the Lake’s Children Hospital.
Construction is set to begin this fall on a $14.5 million medical office attached to Our Lady of the Lake’s Children’s Hospital in the Baton Rouge Health District.
Plans call for the 95,000-square-foot office building to have a steel top-out next spring, and the main hospital building is set to open in 2019, OLOL spokeswoman Caroline Isemann says.
OLOL broke ground last year on the $230 million Children’s Hospital project, with much fanfare from the medical community and city-parish leaders. The facility—set to open in 2019—is located on a 66-acre tract along Interstate 10 between Bluebonnet Boulevard and Essen Lane. It is a key feature of the burgeoning Baton Rouge Health District, an initiative aimed at turning the corridor into a collaborative medical community.
The adjacent medical office will mainly house pediatric and other medical specialists and will connect to the hospital through a walkway. The city-parish approved the hospital for a permit on the medical office building today.
The Children’s Hospital will comprise more than 350,000 square feet of patient care space, an emergency department that offers trauma and pediatric transport, and a floor dedicated to St. Jude Affiliate Clinic and cancer treatment services.
