With specialties ranging from hair care to health care, three new companies have joined the Louisiana Business & Technology Center at the LSU Innovation Park.
The latest tenants are McLean, Virginia-based Cognosante, Baton Rouge’s Lubricity Labs and Louisiana Multifunctional Materials Group.
The companies are developing technologies that focus on the commercialization of consumer products, biogeochemistry and health care consulting, according to a news release. They’ll use the LBTC’s fully-equipped chemistry labs to develop their technologies and products.
“These companies are utilizing the labs and expertise of our business counselors and MBA graduate students to launch and grow these businesses, thus creating jobs for the state and region,” says LSU Innovation Park Executive Director Charles D’Agostino in a prepared statement.
Lubricity Labs is the winner of the 2016 PitchBR competition, which took place during Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week last fall. Dr. Boyce Clark, a nuclear chemist whose teenaged daughter inspired him to create an all-natural line of hair care products, is the company founder. His hair care regime uses advances in protein science and polymer chemistry to modify natural protein in damaged hair, causing it to become hydrophobic. Cognosante is a leading provider of health care consulting, business process outsourcing services and technology solutions. The company expertise lies in the health insurance marketplace, informatics, Medicaid enterprise systems and health care standards.
Meanwhile, Louisiana Multifunctional Materials Group is developing a smart sealant that’s used in the construction and transportation industry to help decrease future maintenance costs by reducing structural damage and repairing existing damage caused by changing weather conditions. The company recently was awarded a $225,000 research grant from the National Science Foundation through the LBTC.
