River cities evaluate: Mississippi River mayors are developing tools to help communities evaluate data center proposals as AI and data storage demand drives rapid growth, with more than 75% of member cities already approached about hosting AI infrastructure. The resources include a “Wishlist” to assess risks and benefits and a fiscal framework examining public costs, resource use and community benefits. New residential community: Baton Rouge-based Level Homes has acquired 67 homesites in phase one of Gray’s Landing, a new residential community in Maurice, south of Lafayette. The development marks Level Homes’ seventh community in Lafayette Parish and its first as the sole builder, with 22 home designs ranging from 1,500 to 3,200 square feet. Homes will be priced from the $260s to the $450s, with homesites available now and permitting underway.
AI-powered tool: The FAA is preparing to launch an AI-powered air traffic control tool in the Washington, D.C., area as soon as Monday to help reduce delays and cancellations and manage disruptions. The Strategic Management of Airspace, Routes and Trajectories, or Smart, system will analyze schedules, weather, runway capacity and other constraints to predict traffic flows and conflicts. Air Space Intelligence is developing Smart under an $875 million, 12-year government contract, with a nationwide rollout planned. The Wall Street Journal has the full story.
