NEW ORLEANS (AP) — FEMA had declared nearly 80,000 Louisiana households eligible for disaster aid after last summer’s hurricanes.
Available aid ranges from housing assistance to help replacing or fixing damaged vehicles.
The application deadline has closed but there may be some late registrations due to extenuating individual circumstances, spokesman Andrew Thomas said.
More than 13,700 families affected by hurricanes Gustav or Ike are receiving rental assistance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA has moved at least 217 households into mobile homes meant to serve as temporary housing. FEMA had previously estimated that 350 households would need mobile homes, but Thomas said it now appears between 300 and 325 will. FEMA hopes to have all those families placed by late January or early February.
