Developers closing on land for apartment complex near LSU

The Athens, Ga.-based developer with plans for a 274-unit complex called The Standard near the LSU campus has completed purchases for nearly all the property needed to build the apartments. The Standard at Baton Rouge LLC closed Friday on the purchase of about 20 separate parcels from roughly one dozen different owners—at a collective price of $9,835,000—as it works to complete a 5.5-acre tract bordered by West Chimes, Alaska, Aster and Iowa streets. The company is expected to complete purchases for four more parcels that comprise about 1 acre of the total tract. Landmark Properties began the assemblage process about a year ago. It submitted plans for its five-story apartment building and six-story parking garage in October, and, after facing some opposition from nearby residents, the plans were approved by the Planning Commission at its Nov. 18 meeting. Plans for The Standard call for a total of 750,685 square feet of development, including 36 one-bedroom apartments, 81 two-bedroom units, 33 three-bedrooms, 80 four-bedrooms and 44 five-bedrooms—along with a 1,000-square-foot leasing office and ground and rooftop pools. —Rachel Alexander
