East Baton Rouge Parish sales tax collections were down slightly in April, coming in 0.3% less than the year before. More than $12.1 million was collected in April, compared with $12.2 million in April 2010, according to figures released today by the city-parish Finance Department. Those figures do not include vehicle sales taxes. The reason for the decrease was a 1.7% drop in sales outside the city limits. Collections from the unincorporated areas were $5.5 million in April, compared with $5.6 million in April 2010. Inside the city limits $6.64 million was collected, nearly 1% more than the $6.58 million collected in April 2010. Through the first four months of the year, more than $48.4 million in sales taxes have been collected parishwide, compared with $47.5 million through April 2010. That’s an increase of nearly 1.9%.
