Scott Angelle announced this afternoon his resignation as secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, and Gov. Bobby Jindal immediately appointed Stephen Chustz to serve as interim secretary of the department. A release from the governor’s office announcing the change of command does not give a reason for Angelle’s resignation. However, a source close to Angelle tells Daily Report the former interim lieutenant governor will announce his candidacy Thursday for the Public Service Commission District 2 race. On Tuesday, Jindal announced Angelle’s appointment to the LSU Board of Supervisors. This morning, Baton Rouge Republican Rep. Erich Ponti announced he’s running for the PSC District 2 seat that’s being vacated by Jimmy Field, who is retiring at the end of his fifth term on Dec. 31.
